Sun Protection Tips to Follow After an Aesthetics Treatment

Sun Protection Tips to Follow After an Aesthetics Treatment

Now that you’ve taken this step toward achieving your aesthetic goals, it’s important to keep in mind what you can do in terms of optimal aftercare. There are definite dos and don’ts you should follow to ensure that your treatment results aren’t jeopardized. Proper sun care is one of the topmost considerations for anyone post-treatment. Read on to learn when and how to best protect yourself from the sun following your aesthetic treatment:

Treatments That Require Sun Protection Aftercare

Venus Treatments are safe and comfortable, and typically require little to no downtime, or prolonged recovery periods. In some cases, however, your skin will be sensitive to UV exposure directly after a session and so it is very important that you take extra steps to protect it. These are just a few of the treatments that you should limit your sun exposure immediately after:

Heightened UV sensitivity after these aesthetic treatments can last for some time. A proper sun protection routine is generally required post-treatment. Your provider would be able to explain the details of what sun protection measures are needed for you.

How to Protect Your Skin from the Sun

  1. Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. Hopefully this is already part of your daily sun care routine, so doing it after your treatment will come naturally. Dermatologists recommend you use at least an ounce to cover everything properly—that’s a shot glass full. And you should be wearing it even if you’re staying inside all day.
  2. Limit your time outdoors, especially on clear sunny days. If you simply can’t resist the good weather, at least try to keep to the shade, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when UV rays are at their strongest.
  3. Pay attention to the UV index. The UV index tells you how high the risks of sun exposure are on any given day, and you can usually find this number on your favorite weather app or site. A 10 or higher is a good reason to stay inside.
  4. Accessorize to protect your skin. Hats with broad brims and sunglasses with a high UV absorption rate are essential for guarding the sensitive skin around the eyes, face, and neck during sunny weather. You can protect the rest of you with long sleeves and pants or skirts in light fabrics.
  5. Be aware of reflective surfaces and other sources of sunlight. Sun protection is just as important in the winter when snow reflects the sun into your face and doubly so on beach days, to protect you from light bouncing off the water. Also, be careful to shade windows where you may be sitting in direct sunlight for a long period of time—even if you can’t feel the heat, those UV rays are still doing damage.
  6. This should go without saying, but avoid sunbathing, including sunlamps, tanning beds, and tanning salons.

Aesthetics Treatments for Sun Damage

Follow the steps above to ensure that your treatment results will be optimal and long-lasting. Furthermore, they’re all you need to establish an excellent sun protection routine for life. But if you, like most of us, aren’t perfect when it comes to sun care, you may have noticed early signs of sun damage when you look in the mirror. Photoaging is an unavoidable part of life, but modern medical aesthetics technology can do a lot to halt, and even reverse signs of sun damage. These can include but are not limited to sun spots, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Venus Versa™’s TriBella™ treatment works to address all of these concerns using three technologies to rejuvenate skin from underneath the surface. First, using Intense Pulsed Light the treatment works to diminish pigmentation in the skin. The next step uses combination technology to reinvigorate the skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin for anti-aging effects. Lastly, skin resurfacing renews the skin and improves the texture for a smoother, younger, and healthier-looking appearance.

A certified treatment provider can help you decide whether TriBella™ is right for you, and form an individualized plan to help you achieve your best skin yet. Find one near you by using the search field provided below.
